Donald Ray Abney, a remarkably selfless husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Friday January 28, 2022 in Henderson, Nevada at 62 years old. Donald Ray was born on April 9, 1959, in Wichita, Kansas. His father, Donald H. Abney, was a plant manager and his mother, Cora Abney, was a homemaker.

Donald Abney dedicated 39 years to Berry Plastics, where he started out on the assembly line as a packer. Proving his devotion to the manufacturing corporation, he worked his way up the company ladder and retired as Vice President of Operations in 2017.

Outside of work, Donald Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and close friends. As an avid gun enthusiast, he spent a lot of his free time at the shooting range or reloading ammunition. Donald Abney was a wholehearted patriot that loved his country and freedom. Many of these passions have been passed down to his six children.

A lovable family man, he is survived by wife, Claire; sons: Jeffery Orr and Roger (Julie) McLain; daughters: Angelique (Rian) Abney, Jessica (Tyler) Miller, Stephanie (Jimmy) Roy, Monica (Bradley) Pickett; his nine grandchildren; and his siblings: Mary Ellen Smalley, Donna Henderson, Rita Abney, and Ronald Abney.

He will be sorely missed but his memory will be cherished.

Statements from Donald Ray's family:

Claire Abney "He worked tirelessly to make sure his family had everything they needed and wanted. I'm grateful I had him with me for 42 years, I will miss him forever."

Jeffery Orr "Dad taught by example, he was the most patient man in all situations, even when I pushed all of his buttons. He worked hard for everything he had, yet no matter how busy life got he always made sure there was time for family. It was always family first. Every lesson he taught, I hope to carry with me forever."

Roger McLain "Dad, thank you for being a strong family man. You were always there for your wife, for your kids and grandkids. Your presence will be truly missed."

Angelique Abney "My dad had the biggest heart and loved us all unconditionally. He proved it every single day. I knew that if I ever needed anything, I could count on him. He was always a phone call away and always had the right answer. I was his first favorite daughter and I'm sure his most favorite child. I love you daddy. Forever and always."

Jessica Miller "I can hear my daddy now, "makes my butt crave buttermilk!" All of us making a fuss about him, but my daddy deserves only the best as the best is what he gave me my whole life. The love he had for his grandkids just showed in everything he did. His beautiful smile and ornery laugh will radiate in my heart everyday. I am the luckiest daughter in the world to have had my dad raise me and teach me the stuff he did. From good manners, to shooting guns, to putting a worm on a hook. I owe it all to him. I love you my daddy. Not a second will go by that you're not on my mind, I'll forever be your Jones."

Stephanie Roy "My daddy is my best friend, my ex roommate. I would try and go see my parents everyday whether they liked it or not but I wouldn't have had it any other way. He was Weston's biggest fan and Austin's right hand man. He was our rock, the glue to this family and he will forever live in our hearts."

Monica Pickett "My daddy is my biggest hero and my best friend. I loved every minute I spent with him and I carry him everyday in my heart. He was the most kind, caring, generous soul and I truly could not have asked for a better person to be my dad. His memories will be my warmest and I will love him forever."

A visitation for Donald will be held Monday, February 7, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, both at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015.
