A native of Orangeburg County, SC, Lou was a daughter of the late Mike H. and Chrystabell Fogle Gleaton. She grew up in Perry and moved to New Holland in the early 1950's. She lived in New Ellenton since 1975 and worked for E. I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant in the mid 1970's. Mostly she was a homemaker. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. Lou will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful hostess and elegant lady. She was a true "Southern Belle" who loved her church and family.
Survivors include her two children, Mitch Kirkland (Gina), New Ellenton, Vicki Brown (Rusty), Aiken; four grandchildren, Kippy Widener (Jonathan), Joshua Brown (Amber), Lauren Stringfield (Matthew), Travis Kirkland (Ashley); six great-grandchildren, Dustin Waller (Morgan), Alexis Waller, Braelynn Widener, Ava Kirkland, T. J. Kirkland, Landon Brown; five great-great-grandchildren, IzaBella, August, Savana, Kayleigh, Harrison; a sister, Beverly Jeffcoat, Swansea. In addition to her husband and parents, Lou was preceded in death by nine siblings.
The family will receive friends at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow with The Rev. Brancie Stephens officiating. Interment will be in New Holland Baptist Church Cemetery.
