Susan Marriott Ickes 1945 ~ 2008
Susan Marriott Ickes passed away on Jan. 14, 2008, at her home from complications arising from MS. Susan was a woman of enormous faith and perseverance. Her strong will and determination to deal with MS did not prevent Susan from being devoted to her children and extended family and living a productive life as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. These strengths are an inspiration to many. She was accepting of others, very forgiving, and considered everyone she met to be her friend for the remainder of her life. Her former husband, six children, siblings, mother, extended family, many friends and her caregivers comforted her during her last illness. Throughout her life Susan had a fervent testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ which she evidenced through service in the Relief Society, the Primary, missionary work, numerous friendships, and in generosity to many individuals and causes. The family appreciates the care and friendship provided by her numerous caregivers throughout the years. Susan was born on Nov. 20, 1945 in Washington, D.C. In 1967, she graduated with a teaching degree from the University of Utah. She married Dennis Ickes in the Salt Lake Temple in 1969. Six children were born of their union.
Susan is survived by all of her children, Emily Roberts (Rod), Susanne McDonald (Mike), Elizabeth Menlove (Mitch), Judith Schellenberg (Matt), Dennis M. Ickes (Jennifer), and Marianne Brown (Jonathan), 13 grandchildren, her mother, Judith Cannon Marriott, brother David Marriott, sisters Nancy Sonkens and Judith Ann Ballstaedt.
