Helen Ola Johnston Templeton, 84, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Funeral service will be held at 10:00AM at the God Loves You Ministries, Haskell, Texas, with Kristi Stewart officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

Helen Ola Johnston was born May 19, 1938, to Ernest Lee and Georgia Ola Johnston in Glen Rose, Texas. She married Clyde Eugene Bartley on June 3, 1956, in Haskell, Texas. After his passing, she married James Felix Templeton October 23, 1982. Helen answered to many names throughout her life, just a few were "Hun," "Mother," "Mom," "Granny," "Auntie," "Helen," "Big H," and "Helen Go Bartley," to know Helen was to love her. She never met a stranger and saw the best in everybody. Many of her nieces and nephews who called her "Auntie" were raised right along with her own children. She served the community of Haskell at Bartley's East Side Grocery where you could find her slicing lunch meat or dipping minnows. She always had a smile, a kind word, and the most unforgettable hug. She enjoyed spending time outside, especially in her garden and spent many summers fishing down south at her spot on the Nueces River. Helen was always on the go, whether it was to see a play, listen to live music, or watch a grandkid play sports or show an animal. She made many trips to Nashville with her family and believed a chocolate milkshake or a fudgesicle could turn any frown upside down.

Helen graduated from Hamlin High School and kept in touch with many of her classmates. She was a secretary at AC Scott Oil in Abilene and worked at Lanco Insurance in Haskell. She could make the best Thanksgiving dressing, pound cake (that really weighed more like 10lbs), her chocolate sheet cake was sweet enough to make you sweat, and one-of-a-kind fresh fried catfish. All her grandkids learned how to make homemade ice cream in her kitchen. She loved pictures, saved coins, never forgot a birthday and could always find the most suitable card, she taught a number of kids to drive, enjoyed road trips, and would never pass up a good cup of coffee – black with a tablespoon of sugar. She will be missed by so many and was met in heaven by the love of her life Clyde; daughter Belinda; son Terry; late husband Jess; sister Bonnie; brother Herbert; her mother and father; niece Bonita; nephew Leon; and close friends, Sis, Myra, and Wayne.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila; son Michael and wife Debra; daughter-in-law Kelly; granddaughters, Tiffany, Brittany and husband Chris, Heather and husband Cody, and Chambray, grandson Chris and wife Jendy; nine great-grandkids, many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and dear friends which include Bennett Shortes, Cliff and Kay Morris.

In lieu of flowers, please make any charitable donations in Helen's name to God Loves You Ministries or the charity of your choice.
