Ephraim was the son of Elijah & Clarinda (Babcock) Purdy. He was the 8th of 11 children--Julia Ann (Mrs David Belknap Stickney), Lucinda (Mrs Levi Close), Ruth (Mrs John Shrimplin), Ozias, Edward, Richard David, Mercy Jane (Mrs Emanuel Shafer), Ephraim, Eliab, John Calvin & Elizabeth (Mrs Alfred Middaugh). He married 1st Susan Florence Gray, daughter of John & Henrietta (Scott) Gray. Their 9 children were John Elijah, Francis Edward, Florence Elizabeth (Mrs Joseph Wolfe), Franklin Henry, Richard Everett, Etta Jane (Mrs Conrad Becker), Henrietta (1873-1874), Daniel Ephraim & Maude Rosine (Mrs George Becker, Jr). He married 2nd Lucinda J Barrott. His brothers Ozias Wilson & Edward migrated from Holmes County, Ohio to Allen County, Ohio in 1851; his brother Richard migrated to Allen County, Ohio in 1854; Ephraim migrated to Van Wert County, Ohio in 1859.
