Sarah Libby Epstein was born on Sept 1, 1875 in New York City, New York to Julius and Henriette "Ethel" (Wolcoff) Epstein. She married David Benjamin in about 1892 and they had six children together (he also had two children from his previous marriage). David was killed in a mining accident in 1916. Sarah died of heart disease on January 7, 1940 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania at age 64.
