Mr. L. Riley Baucom, an aged and highly respected citizen of the Olive Branch section, died Friday, aged 81 years, two months and two days. He was a brother of county commissioner Baucom. Mr. Baucom was a Confederate soldier belonging to the 10th North Carolina Battalion, Co. C. He lost his arm at the battle of Bentonville, after Lee's surrender. He is survived by two sons and three daughters. His sons are Messrs. J. H. Baucom, with whom he lived, and Mr. B. F. Baucom of Salisbury. His daughters are Mrs. Fannie Smith of Rowan county, Mrs. Hampton Brooks and Misses Loula and Lizzie Baucom. Mr. Baucom was a good citizen and was the last Confederate pensioner in his class in this county. The remains were buried at the Baucom burying ground and funeral was conducted by Rev. J. G. Gulledge.
