Lavon Hunter Scholes, 70, of Pocatello, a former Rigby resident, died at her home 3 December 1978 at her home of a possible heart attack. She was born 1 March 1908 at Bennington, Idaho the daughter of William Hughes and Olive L. Burbank Hunter. 20 October 1927, she was married to Alvin Adams Scholes in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. He died 29 January 1954. For 30 years they farmed in the Rigby area and for the past 20 years she made her home in Pocatello. Lavon was an active member of the LDS Church and held various positions. She was also an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Lavon enjoyed creating beautiful crocheted items and made numerous quilts, which were given to children and grandchildren and friends. She loved and kept beautiful flower gardens. She was a blue ribbon fair bread maker and was noted for the great taffy she made at Christmas. Many activities for the young people were held in their home, where Lavon was a gracious hostess. Her children and extended family were especially important to her as she tried to keep the family reunions alive. Survivors are two sons; Harold William (Genevie) Scholes of Rigby and Von Alvin(Rose) Scholes of Firth; four daughters, Virginia (Albert) Stuart of Pocatello, Doris (Clyde) Hill of Ucon, Phoebe (Leroy) Bird of Salmon and LaRue (LaRelle) Sutton of Las Vegas; two sisters, Sarah (Wendell) Walton of Idaho Falls and Ila (Jack) George of Pocatello; 32 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a still born daughter, and four brothers, William, Daniel, Harry, and Lawrence Hunter. Services were held 6 December 1978 at the Pocatello 3rd Ward, followed by burial in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
