Lawrence B. Burwell, age 92, of Alvin, Texas passed away Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Laurel Court, Alvin, Texas. Lawrence was born on August 15, 1917 in New Haven, Connecticut and was a resident of Alvin for 20 years, formerly of Mesquite, Texas. He attended Brown University. Lawrence served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the South Park Baptist Church. He was an insurance salesman and married Marie Penton Burwell in June 1989. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Florence Burwell; son, Lawrence Burwell, Jr.; and brother, Reese Burwell.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 20 years, Marie Burwell of Alvin, Texas; son, Steven Penton of Alvin, Texas; sister, Patricia Gilbert of Woodbridge, Connecticut; 2 grandchildren, Donald Penton and Steven Wade Penton; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 4, 2010 at Scott Funeral Home with a service following at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Bruce Peterson officiating.
