Postmaster of Shelby for the past eight years, Mr. McLain was a native of Gloster. He had resided in Shelby since 1923, and prior to assuming the postmastership, was affiliated with the Wilkinson Planting Company. He was an active member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. McLain are his wife, Mrs. Ernestine Lamkin McLain of Shelby; two daughters, Mrs. W. G. Phillips of Shelby and Mrs. George C. Causey of Cleveland; six sisters, Mrs. Fannie Ratcliff, Mrs. Julia Ratcliff, Mrs. Ellen Hoff, and Mrs. W. I. Causey, all of Gloster, Mrs. B. E. Jacobs of Jackson and Mrs. E. R. Harrol [sic Harrell] of Lafayette, La.
Mr. McLain was also the father of the late William B. McLain, an executive in the state banking department.
