Sgt. J. Athan Theodore, 30, of Route 1, Vashon Island, was killed in action last Wednesday, the Defense Department announced yesterday. Sergeant Theodore, a native of Seattle, had resided on Vashon Island the past five years. He had served in the Army Reserve since 1960 and went on active duty last June. He was sent to Vietnam in November and was assigned to the Special Forces in the Central Highlands. Sergeant Theodore was a Ballard High School graduate and attended the University of Washington. He was a member of St. John Vianney Church, Vashon Island, and Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at the U.W. Survived by his wife, Marilyn E.; a son, John Theodore, his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Theodore, Seattle, and four sisters, Mrs. Dean Taylor, Seattle, Mrs. William Srakken, Lake Tapps, Pierce County, Mrs. Maurice Zent, Taneytown MD, and another sister, Jaunita, in Minneapolis.
