William, a silk costings clerk of 13 Bantry Street, Camberwell, Southwark, was the son of George Hayes Swinton Gibbs and Alma Gibbs (nee Saker), of Ivanhoe Road, Camberwell, and was the husband of Ellen Clara Catherine Gibbs (nee Jarvis) who he married in 1923
Sadly William perished as a result of an enemy air attack at the Red Lion public house at 39 Duke Street. As with the majority of the victims of this air attack, the bodies were not recovered until the following day, and William was later laid to rest at CAMBERWELL NEW CEMETERY on the 14th December 1944.
Also interred in the same plot were William's mother Alma who died in August 1947 and his wife Ellen who passed away in July 1984. William's father Henry is buried in nearby NUNHEAD CEMETERY.
At the time of his passing William was 41 years of age.
