Samantha Baily was born in Meigs county, Ohio, December 25, 1818.

She was one of a family of seven children, all of whom are deceased but one brother, Seldon Baily, who lives in Meigs county Ohio.

She was married to Sylvanus B. Westfall September 15, 1837, and lived in Meigs county, Ohio, until 1852, when the family moved to Knox county, Illinois, where they lived until October, 1871, at which time they moved to Clarke county, Iowa.

She was the mother of ten children, eight of whom are still living, and six were at her bedside at the time of her death.

Two daughters were unable to be present and two daughters deceased.

She always felt that she was a Christian and united with the Methodist church at about 25 years of age.

In after years she united with the United Brethren church and remained a consistent member until her death which occurred at the home of her son, April 27, 1910, aged 91 years, 4 months and 2 days.

She was unable to work for about fifteen years.

Her health began to fail the last few months and failed rapidly the last month.

She was ever faithful to the church and the Master's Kingdom.

Her delight was in the law of the Lord and she was never so well pleased as when engaged in the service of God's house, especially in the class room 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.'

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. Thornbrue at Hebron on Friday the 29th.

A large audience filled the church. The Methodist choir of Weldon, furnished the music. Truly a saint of God has gone to rest. Weldon Cor.
