Charles Gordon Frank, M.D. passed away peacefully on January 19, 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 72. He was born on April 3, 1935 in Richfield, Utah to LeGrande Charles and Rula Ence Frank. He completed his undergraduate degree at BYU and received his medical degree from The University of Utah College of Medicine. After medical school he completed his surgical training in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at UCLA and Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons and Diplomate of The American Board of Thoracic Surgery. In 1970 he was appointed to serve as Assistant Director of the Utah Artificial Heart Test Facility in Salt Lake City and later returned to Los Angeles where he was in private practice for 30 years. During this period he held the positions of Chief of Surgery at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica, Califorina, and President of the Bay Surgical Society in Los Angeles. He was an avid pilot and enjoyed flying his plane along the coast of California and to his boyhood home in Richfield. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and scuba diving. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margene. He is survived by his children: Melanie (David Watson), Pearson LeGrande Frank (Sharon) of Salt Lake City, and Charles Carter Frank of Moab; and grandchildren, Laura, Dakota, Samuel, Savannah and Cheyenne. Graveside services will be at the Richfield City Cemetary on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 1:00 pm.
