Son of Jerome Bonaparte & Elizabeth (Shroufe) Fite. Husband to (1) Jennie J. Fite & (2) Dora Belle (McCleary) Fite.


Jerome Wilson Fite, 99, died Monday at 11 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lorene Goodwin of Floris. He had made his home there the past two years. He had been in failing health for six months.

Born Sept 19, 1866, in Davis County, he was the son of J.B. and Elizabeth Shrofe Fite. He had spent most of his life in Davis County engaged in farming. He had also lived in Eldon prior to moving to Floris.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church for many years and had been a member of Eldon Baptist Church when he lived there.

His marriage to Dora Belle McCleary took place May 14, 1905. She preceded him Oct. 4, 1943.

Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Wilma Creek and Mrs. Allene Padget, both of Batavia, Mrs. Lela Harrison of Fairfield, Mrs. Goodwin of Floris and Mrs. Margaret Adams and Mrs. Neva Teeter, both of Eldon; two sons, robert of Agency and Russell of Batavia; 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son in infancy, two brothers, four sisters, and one great-grandson.

The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home in Eldon, in charge of the Rev. Harold Day of North Court Baptist Church in Ottumwa. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery.
