Interested in Masonic work, he as a past mater of Tuscan Lodge #360, a past patron of Tuscan Chapter #68, Order of the Eastern Star, a 32nd degree Mason, Knight Commander of the Court of Honour, member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, a member of the Alhambra Grotto, Moolah Temple, the Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and the Caledonian Club.
Active in baseball and football during his high school years, he was one of the founders of the St. Louis Skeet and Trap Club. He also bred and trained Irish setters as a hobby.
