He is the son of Lyman L. Hodge and Mary Ann Lewis. He married Ida Pearl Taylor on 14 Feb 1901 in Eureka, Juab, Utah. They were the parents of six children.

Funeral services for James Custer Hodge, 72, who died at his home Wednesday, November 15, 1950, will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Burley Third Ward chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, by Bishop Laurence Tolman.
Mr. Hodge was born August 1, 1873, in Lehi, Utah. He was married to Ida Pearl Taylor February 14, 1901 at Eureka.
He was one of the first settlers in Burley, and had worked as a city employee for the past 27 years.
Survivors include his widow, four sons, James, Gilbert, Calvin and Jake Hodge, Burley; two daughters, Mrs. Francis Staker, Blackfoot, and Mrs. Helen Roderick, Ogden; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Burley Cemetery under the direction of McCulloch Funeral Home. Friends may call at the mortuary until time of services Monday.

NOTE: In his obituary, James Custer's age does not compute with his given birth date. According to their marriage certificate and Utah Census records he was born in 1876, making him 74 years old at the time of his death.
