Born Carroll Co. GeorgiaYoungest of fifteen children; was attending Bowden Military Academy when the War Between the States broke out and he enlisted; wounded and held prisoner by the Union Army in Richmond at the time of surrender; the family's home and lands laid waste by Sherman's march through Georgia he came to Arkansas to join three of his older brothers, walked from Richmond to Craighead County determined to start a new life; became prominent in Jonesboro civic affairs, was a board member of the Jonesboro Roller Mill, the Jonesboro Building Loan, the Jonesboro Bank, and the YMCA, president of American Bank and Trust Company when it was organized, and president of the Jonesboro Wagon Manufacturing Company, trustee of the Jonesboro State Normal and Woodland College; served as an active member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church.
