Daniel Columbus Irwin was born November 14, 1862, at Wawarsing, Ulster County, New York. He was the son of Peter Rose Irwin and Annis Amelia Knickerbocker. He entered the ministry, on trial, in 1883 in the Erie Conference and was ordained in 1884. He married Inez Arminda Dye, October 15, 1884. Their children were Edith L., Nellie A., and Warren W. He continued in the Erie Conference until 1888. He then went to the North Dakota Mission where he continued to preach for six years and do real missionary work. He then returned East and joined the Genesee Conference where he remained for the rest of his life. In this conference he served the following charges: Ceres, Ellicottville, Whitesville, Belfast, Hinsdale, West Sparta, Fillmore, Delevan, Friendship, Kendall, Bergen, South Byron, Knowlesville and Alexander. He retired October 1924, and made his home in Kendall, New York. His wife Inez, died in 1922 and he married Lillian Allis in 1923. One son was born to this union, whom they named Paul.
Brother Irwin was faithful in all the requirements of the work of the ministry. He was a student of the Bible and of human nature. His outstanding quality was Christian patience and faithfulness. No man was ever more consecrated to his work than was he. His influence in all the places where he preached continues until this day.
