Wanda Jacobs Strange, age 92, of Carmel, Indiana passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022.
Wanda was a teacher of English and Journalism.

During retirement, Mrs. Strange was a private tutor for Carmel Clay Township and a desktop publisher.

Before retiring from classroom teaching in 1996, she taught English and journalism for forty-four years, the final seventeen years at Perry Meridian High School and in a summer session of the Indiana University High School Journalism Institute.

Previously she had taught at River Forest High School in Hobart, IN, Lawrence Central High School, St Agnes Academy, Chartrand High School, St. Charles School in Peru IN, St. Anthony School in Gardena and ST. Teresa of Avila School in Los Angeles, CA, St. Angela and Our Lady of Mercy Schools in Chicago, IL. She sponsored extra-curricular activities including school newspaper, yearbook, chess club, drama, career study club, library and interracial panel. From 1969 to 1971, she worked as a consultant at the Office of Catholic Education in Indianapolis. IN 1948 she worked in the city room of The Indianapolis Star and the law office of her father.

She received an IPL Golden Apple nomination in 1995, a Channel 13 Shining Star nomination in 1993 and an Indianapolis Star Indiana All Star Certificate of Merit in 1990. In 1996, PMHS Student Council named her Most Interesting Teacher in the School. She received PMHS Student's Apple awards annually 1987 through1998. She was listed in Who's Who Among American Teachers1997,1996 and 1990. She was awarded Hobart Township Outstanding Teacher in 1971.

She attended Marian College and St. Mary of the Woods College where she received a Bachelor's Degree. She received a Master's Degree from Indiana University and additional post graduate credits from LaSalle college in Philadelphia, University of Nebraska, Indiana University and Ball State University. She was graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1948.

She was a member of Indiana University Alumnae Association, Indiana High School Press Association and of community organizations, including PEO, Indianapolis Book Club, Indiana Historical Society and Indianapolis Zoo. She was a supporter of local theater, especially of American Cabaret Theater and Indiana Repertory Theater. From 1949 to 1970, she was a Sister of Providence. She enjoyed traveling, reading, conversation, writing and teaching.

She is widowed of Marcian Robert Strange and was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Sr. and Joyce Jacobs, brother Andy Jacobs and sister Marjorie Jacobs Landwerlen.

Surviving are her goddaughter Jennifer Baum, Lisa Weidekamp, nephews Tom Landwerlen, Martin Landwerlen, Dan Landwerlin, Greg Landwerlin, Andy Jacobs Jr. and Steve Jacobs.
