Joy Lucille Chrisman
December 31, 1933 - December 14, 2022

Chrisman (Joyce Lucille Stewart) passed away December 14, 2022 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan at the age of 88. She was born to John and Ida (Harr) Stewart in Firebrick, Kentucky on December 31, 1933 and was one of 8 children including brothers, James, Richard, Douglas, John Gary and Phillip and sisters Lois (Stewart) Blankinship and Elmyra Stewart.

Joy graduated from Sedan High School in 1952. She married Mack (Bud) Chrisman in Sedan, Kansas where they lived all their lives and January 11 would have been their 70th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with two sons, David Leon Chrisman and Donald Mack Chrisman and one daughter Robyn Deneise Chrisman, who only lived 1 day.

Joy enjoyed playing softball when she was younger and bowling. She retired from Sedan City Hospital where she worked as a nurse aide for 30+ years. She enjoyed crocheting and gave away many afghans. Joy enjoyed country music, painting, making angel pins, all crafts, and helped with art classes at the Sedan Grade School. Many family members and friends in Sedan received Joy's famous peanut butter fudge and Christmas candy. She loved going to her kids and grandkids sporting events. All the boys on the team always knew to come to her car after the game for a pop and candy bar, a lot of the times she even shared with the other teams and many of the kids in town have continued to call her "Grandma Joy". She always said kids liked her because she was their size. She was small of stature but big on attitude and love of her family.

Joy is survived by her husband Mack, son David and wife Debbie, son Don and wife Vickie. Grandsons D.J. and wife Tami, Chase and wife Kim, and Brock and granddaughter Kayla and her fiancé Eric Schmidt. Great grandchildren Carter, Morgan, Graham, Dalton, Clayton, Brynlee and Eli, brother Phillip and sister Elmyra, sister-in-laws Janice Chrisman, Jan Stewart, Loretta Stewart, and Barbara Stewart, and many nieces and nephews and friends who loved her.

The family requests donations to the Blue Devil Foundation instead of flowers and they can be left with the Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361 or mailed to Sedan High School, 416 E. Elm Street, Sedan, Kansas 67361.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the First Christian Church in Sedan with Pastor Penny Goldberg officiating.

The family will have a short private interment at the Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the service due to the expected cold weather and then the family will be greeting people shortly after graveside service in the church basement.
