Marlys M Schlichting, 77, of Kimball SD passed away on December 14, 2022 in her home.

Memorial services for friends and family will be held at a later date,

Marlys Mae Schlichting (Koranda) was born at home on May 27, 1945, to Edward and Corlena (VanDenBerg) Koranda. Marlys grew up in Kimball, SD, where she married John Hallman and started her family while living on a ranch. She later lived in Platte, SD, before returning to Kimball where she lived until her death. Marlys was blessed with six children and later married Arthur Schlichting. They enjoyed life, love, and struggles together until Art's passing in 2003. Marlys held various jobs, but her favorites were extracting honey and cooking at Ditty's because she got to work with many different family members, from her husband and sisters to her daughters and nieces and nephews. Cooking is definitely a Koranda family superpower and Marlys was one of the best! Her fried chicken dinner is legendary! After retiring Marlys stayed with and cared for her mother giving her two extra years of living in her own home. Marlys loved spending time with her family and especially loved Wednesdays when Chelsie, Memphis, and Izzi would come over to help with chores and visit. Marlys enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, card games, crossword and wordsearch puzzles, reading and buying gifts for her loved ones (including her granddogs) off TV and out of real paper catalogs. You never left her home empty handed!

Marlys was lucky and thankful to be part of a large family and a small town. She is deeply loved and will be forever missed by many!

Grateful for sharing her life are her children: Jeffrey Hallman of Council Bluffs, IA, Robin Hallman of Kimball, SD, George Hallman of Platte, SD, Michael Hallman of Baker, MT, Faye (Dana) Byre of Reliance, SD, and Marnie (Ryan) Van Genderen of Chamberlain, SD. 13 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Brothers: Larry (Pat) Koranda of Fort Worth, TX, Bob (Nancy) Koranda of Kimball, SD, and Tom (Sandy) Koranda of Colman, SD. Sisters: Marlene Koranda of Las Vegas, NV, and Sandi (Edwin) Westendof of Detroit Lakes, MN. Brothers-In-Law: Dennis Soulek of Kimball, SD, and Perry Hempel of Kimball, SD. Along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Waiting for Marlys in heaven are her husband, an infant son, her parents, her sisters: Pat Stone, Karen Nelson, Sherri Soulek, and Gloria Hempel. Brothers-In-Law: Kendell Stone and Bill Nelson. Grandchildren: Doyal A. Spoonemore, Michael Toupal, and Winnie Mae Van Genderen.

Note: Memorial Services for Marlys Mae Schlichting, 77 of Kimball, SD will be held Saturday, February 18th, 2023, 10:00am at the Kimball Protestant parish with burial to follow at the Kimball City cemetery and lunch at the Senior Citizens Center.
