James Roscoe Acord, 89, of Kansas, Illinois, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at his home. He was the owner of the former Acord Grain Company and Acord's Midway Market of Kansas for many years.

He was born February 27, 1933, in Edgar County, Illinois, the son of the late Chester "C.R." and Emma Loretta (Stewart) Acord. He married Diana Jeanne Drake on June 30, 1991, at Kansas Christian Church, and she survives.

Other survivors include five children, Tina Davis of Seattle, Washington, Sid (Tammy) Acord of Ashmore, Illinois, Chris (Michelle) Acord of Hartford, Alabama, Robert Turner of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Lennie (Barb) McKinney of Sullivan, Indiana; a sister, Ruth Malcom of Atlanta, Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Vickie McKinney of New Lebanon, Indiana; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Mollie. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald McKinney, and a son-in-law, Bruce Davis.

Mr. Acord was a proud, devoted member of Kansas Christian Church where he had served as a deacon, trustee, and church treasurer for many years. He was also a member of Kansas Lodge #280 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, AASR Valley of Danville, Ansar Shrine Temple, and Edgar County Shrine Club. Jim worked diligently to serve his community. He served fifty years with the Kansas Fire Department including time as Chief, Assistant Chief, and Board President. He was elected as a Village of Kansas Board member for over twenty-five years, and served as sexton of Fairview Cemetery for over twenty-five years. In addition, he worked for many years as a greeter and caretaker for the Templeton Funeral Home in Kansas. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed watching the grain markets, camping, and NASCAR, and was a loyal Illini sports fan.

For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to Kansas Christian Church or to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Services celebrating his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Kansas Christian Church with Minister Bret Hammond officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with Masonic Rites conducted by Kansas Lodge #280 A.F. & A.M. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Templeton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
