Roy Rodger Marrero, Sr., M.D. passed away quietly at New Orleans East Hospital on November 7 at 6:30 A.M. He was surrounded by his wife of 65 years and his children. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Phillip A. Marrero, Jr. and Gertrude Guichard Marrero on December 14, 1933, he grew up on St. Peter Street near Bayou St. John. He graduated from St. Peter Claver Elementary School, Xavier Prep Catholic High School in 1952, Xavier University of Louisiana in 1956, and Howard University College of Medicine in 1969.

He practiced Orthopedic Surgery in New Orleans for 31 years. After he retired, he spent his last few years doing what he enjoyed most with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Phillip and Gertrude Marrero, his stepmother Bernadine Gougis Marrero and his brother-in-law, Albert Thomas.

He leaves behind his wife of 65 years Charmaine LaBeau Marrero. His children: Roy Jr., (Kathryn), Keith, Denise St. Cyr (Steven), Christopher (Shannon), Jennifer Lewis (Christopher) and Patrick (Angele). His grandchildren: Corey (Melissa), Dominick (Rio), Christian, Keith, Jr. (Victoria), Kira, Leda, Kristen, Roy, III, John, Evans, Jonathan, Zoe, Arianna, Lauren and Nylah. His Great-grandchildren: Corey, Jr., Charles, Dominick, Jr., Raine, and River. His sister Lorraine Thomas and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of New Orleans East Hospital, University Medical Center, and Cardiac Rehabilitation Services for the compassionate care given to Roy during his illness. Funeral Services for Roy Marrero, Sr., M.D. will be on Saturday, November 19th at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, 9701 Hammond St., New Orleans at 10 a.m. Visitation begins at 8 a.m. Interment will immediately follow the Mass at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Gentilly. Services Entrusted to the Caring Staff of: Professional Funeral Services "Celebrating Life" 1449 N. Claiborne Ave., New Orleans, LA 70116. 504-948-7447.
