Les (Leslie) Aal was born during a snowstorm in Williston, North Dakota, on January 14, 1947. He was a science and health teacher at Meridian Jr. High School in Kent, WA, for 31 years. Les positively impacted the many students and faculty members who walked through his doors and had so much fun in the learning environment. He had an unshakable faith in God, and for years was involved with Children's Ministries at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle and was a Bible Study Fellowship leader in the Kent area. Les was committed to teaching The Word and nurturing faith in Jesus Christ.
The family was always essential to Les. Being the oldest, he helped raise his other five siblings (Sue, Jon, Mike, Carla, and Jan) in a very challenging environment. He loved them all unwaveringly, and they cherished him.
Les was married to his sweetheart Toni Sue for 53 years. They first dated during high school and later married while attending the University of Washington. The two settled down in Kent a few years later, where they've lived ever since. Les raised two children with Toni - Tara and Ryan, now 42 and 47 years old. He was a devoted father and did everything he could to provide, support, and nurture them along the way.
When Les retired in 2001, he happily made himself available to be a full-time Grandpa for Caleb and then Leah a few years later. He sang songs, danced around the house, explored, taught them about nature, read books, and covered them with an everlasting love.
Les was very social and loved to tease and joke with a twinkle in his eye. He met and knew scores of people and always remembered them – even from way back in his past. Frequently, Les would run into an old student or acquaintance and talk way too long, catching up (despite his kids waiting impatiently). His close friends were precious, and he often told us stories of them that he held so close to his heart. Those friends were an extension of his family, and he loved them dearly until the end.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, step-grandfather, brother, and friend. Anyone who knew him will miss him, but we know he is now in a much better place with his Lord.
Les leaves behind his wife Toni, Daughter Tara, Son Ryan, Grandson Caleb, Granddaughter Leah, Step-Granddaughter Paisley, and his five siblings Sue, Jon, Mike, Carla, and Jan. His final resting place will be at Evergreen Memorial Park in Enumclaw, Washington.
