US Congressman, US Senator. An 1812 graduate of Harvard University, he practiced law in Augusta and Hallowell, Maine. He was a member of the US House of Representatives from 1825 to 1829, and of the United States Senator from 1829 to 1835. He later practiced law in Boston, where he died.
