George Vaughn 'Georgie' Horton, Jr., 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 12, 2011 at the home of his brother and caregiver for the past 23 years, Mike J. Horton in New Port Richey, Pasco Co, FL. The oldest son of the late George V. 'Vaughn' Horton, Sr., and Margaret B. 'Sue' (Mellott) Horton. Georgie was born at the family home in Woodvale, Bedford Co, PA on December 11, 1932.

Georgie is survived by his sister, Patricia A. and husband Domenick Masotti of Bayshore, NY, and two brothers: William C. 'Bill' Horton and wife, Cathy (Diaz) of E. Islip, NY and Mike J. Horton, of FL.

He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Chester A. 'Chet' & Lena (Bussick) Horton of Hummelstown, PA; aunt, Maxine (Park) Horton of Three Springs, PA, widow of Pershing Q. Horton; and aunt, Lillian 'Lilli' (Petri) Horton of Connecticut, widow of Roy T. Horton. Two sisters-in-law also survive: Sachiko (Asano) Horton of Everett and Kathy (Gribbin) Horton-Werkheiser of Bayport, NY. Many nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers: Roy Robert 'Bob' Horton of Everett, PA; Fred A. Horton of College Point, Queens, NY; and Thomas O. 'Tommy' Horton of Dunwoody, GA.

Georgie endured life-long autism. As a teenager, he was a strong young man known for his infectious smile, remarkable memory of family history and reunion events and his eagerness to assist anyone he knew with whatever task presented him. He resided for some years with his grandmother, Eunice C. (Waite) Horton at Saxton, PA helping with household chores following the death of her husband and his grandfather, Scott George Horton. Grandma Horton was a huge positive influence on Georgie's character building and values. Later Georgie returned to live at home with his parents in Bedford, PA, New York, Nashville, TN, and Florida until their passing.

Georgie was of the Catholic Faith. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all the many family members and friends who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the Akers Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bernard L. White officiating.

Friends and Family may call on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton, PA 16678.

Interment will be made in the Broad Top City I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Huntingdon Co, PA, in the Horton family section along side his parents and his uncle Roy.
