Tulia, Texas— Wallace Lumpkins, 87, died Sunday, September 16, 2007 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2007 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with James Weldon McClure, grandson and pastor of Unity Baptist Church in La Vernia, Texas officiating with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mr. Lumpkins was born February 18, 1920 in Paducah. He grew up in and around Tulia and attended schools in a small community near Wayside. He married Bernice McClure on October 2, 1943 in Tulia and they enjoyed a wonderful 50 year marriage until she passed away in 1993. Mr. Lumpkins worked on a farm all his life and for the last 10-15 years he was also a handyman around Tulia. He was a Baptist. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home. He is preceded in death his wife and a daughter; Marilyn Hughes. Survivors include two sons; Charles McClure of Amarillo and Carl McClure of Florence, two daughters; Carol Buchanan of Temple and Linda Kauitszch of North Richland Hills, one sister; Evelyn Jo Johnson of Florida, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
