Richard James Moses passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on January 1st, 2023 from complications of diabetes. Richard was born July 10th, 1944 in Moline, Illinois, son of David and Helen Sollenberger Moses. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1962, attended Blackhawk College in 1963 and transferred to Drake University College of Pharmacy in 1963, graduating in 1967. Richard started to work for Mays Drug in Bloomington, Illinois, as Apprentice Pharmacist, passed his Licensure tests in 1967 for Registered Pharmacist. He transferred to Mays Drug in Milan in 1969, and as Richard would say, stayed on the same corner until 1990. He purchased the Medicine Shoppe in Rock Island in 1996 and sold to Hy-Vee in Rock Island in 2006. He retired in 2009, and worked part time in various pharmacies between 2009 to 2015 when he fully retired. He married Jeanie Bohatka Adams in 1986. His hobbies included photography, hunting, pistol and rifle target shooting with his children, traveling extensively with Jeanie, including driving to Alaska, 49 states and 9 Canadian Provinces, genealogy and photographing cemetery stones for Find-A-Grave requests. Richard is survived by his wife Jeanie of 36 years; 3 sons Ronald, Milan, IL; Rhys (Kakuko), Tokyo, Japan; and Robert (Britni), Rock Island, IL; stepson Paul (Kim) Adams, Texas; stepdaughter Kathleen Adams (Cliff) Miller, Aledo, IL; grandchildren Brandon (Heidi) Adams, Texas; Ashley (Chris) Casey, Florida; Dale (Morgan) Miller, Missouri; and Jack (Kelsey) Miller, Michigan; great-grandchildren, Ethan Casey, Florida and Caleb and Parker Adams, Texas; sisters-in-law Arline (Jim) Crowley, Princeton, IL and Michele (Chuck) Maki, Rock Island; brothers-in-law Gary Sackfield, Moline and Jim Lannoo, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughters Robin and Rhonda Moses, parents, sister Pamela Lannoo, and sister-in-law Janice Bohatka Sackfield. He cherished his family, friends and generations of customers during his pharmacy career. We will all cherish the beautiful memories we have of Richard. Memorials can be left to Jeanie to help cover medical expenses.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Casual attire is requested and there will be a gathering at Happy Joe's in Milan, following the celebration of life.
