Philadelphia
"On the 13th instant, after a short illness, died at Burlington, in the 56th year of his age, Samuel Smith, Esq; a worthy and useful member of the Community. At an early period in life he was called to act in its service as a Representative in the General Assembly of New Jersey, and one of the Provincial Treasurers, and afterwards appointed to a seat in the King's Council. In the several stations he acquitted himself with ability, integrity, and an unblemished reputation; nor was his character less respectable, when considered as a member of the religious society of the people called Quakers, in whose burial ground his remains were interred the 15th instant, attended by a large number of relations, neighbours and friends who loved and affirmed him whilst living, and paid this last tribute of their regard with solemn sincerity."
