CHRISTOPHER HINES, a son of Frank Hines and Mary Shields was born in Philadelphia. He was baptized at the Church of St. John the Baptist in the Manayunk section. In 1906 he married an Irish-born girl named Bridget Carlin at St. Francis Xavier Church. Christopher worked as a guard at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. In 1917, Bridget died at the age of 35. Christopher and his three children lived with Bridget's mother, Margaret Carlin and her other children. A year later, Christopher died at the age of 33, a victim of the 1918 Influenza Epidemic. He and his wife are buried at Holy Cross Cemetery. His mother-in-law, Margaret Gillespie Carlin, raised his three children: Maurice, Francis and Marie.
