Delora Jessie Bishop , age 88 of Tipton, MI, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at home with her family by her side. She was born May 11, 1934 in Wiginton, AL, a daughter of the late Ernest Clayton and Zellar Jane (Emerson) Evans. Delora Married Charlie Bluford Bishop, Jr. on August 31, 1951 in Fulton Ms and they have shared over 71 loving years together.
Delora was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hackleburg, AL where she grew up. She lived in Ypsilanti for 27 years where she was a member of the Forest Avenue Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of her churches and taught Sunday school at both. With her love for children Delora opened her own daycare. She loved sewing, quilting, gardening, canning and was a great cook.
Besides her husband, Charlie, Delora is survived by her children, Charlotte (Brian) Chenoweth of Tipton, Dynette Byrom of Britton and Evan Bishop of Maricopa, AZ; sister Patricia Cole of Red Bay, AL; nine grandchildren Vanessa Bishop-Schempp, Amanda Crawford, Stephanie Miller, Geoffrey Byrom, Jacqueline Cantu, Christopher, Keith, Vance and Bruce Bishop; 11 great grandchildren, Blaire, Jaslon, Kaia, Drew, Axton, Brayson, Parker, Finley, Deacon, Brightyn, and Pyper. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donnie Bishop, grandson, Errol Smith, son-in-law, Stephen Byrom and three siblings, Mary Lou Scott, Cecil Evans and Charles Evans.
Visitation for Delora will be from 11am until 2pm on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hackleburg, AL. Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Pastor Ritchie Emerson and Pastor Marshall Emerson officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Olive Cemetery Fund.
