Marilyn Faye Powell, 75, of New London, MO, passed away at 1:57 AM, Friday, January 13, 2023, at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal, MO.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the Second Christian Church of New London, MO. Rev. Faye Vaughn and Rev. Robin Terrell will officiate.

Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in New London, MO.

Friends and Family are invited to Marilyn's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the church. The family is being served by the James O'Donnell Funeral Home of Hannibal, MO.

Marilyn was born November 5, 1947, in New London, MO to William Harry Powell Sr. and Helen Alls Powell.

Survivors include her sister, Frances Ann Powell; her two sisters-in-law, Janet Powell and Peggy Powell; her cousin, Dora Mitchell (Will); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Tyrone Powell; her three sisters, Elizabeth Belle Bunch, Ellen Mallory, and Mary D. Jones; her three brothers, George Powell, Ural Powell, and William Harry Powell Jr and her longtime companion, Carl McQuay.

Also preceding Marilyn in death was a special cousin Alicia (Kaye) Ashby. Marilyn, Alicia, and Dora often referred to themselves as "3 Sisters Kids" and were more like sisters than cousins.

Professionally, Marilyn worked for many years and later retired from the State of Missouri at the Regional Center, having worked in Diagnostics. In her retirement, Marilyn enjoyed working at City Hall in the City Clerk's office in New London, MO, and also for many years as a dispatcher for the Ralls County Sheriff's Department.

Away from work, Marilyn loved being in the kitchen, she made the best greens and was known for her famous deviled eggs. Marilyn enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino to play the slots. She looked forward to watching Young and the Restless everyday with her sister-in-law, Peggy, as they visited with each other on the phone during the soap opera.

Marilyn was actively involved in the New London community, she was board member and assistant treasurer of Pleasant View Cemetery, a board member with the New London Senior Citizens Center and even served as "Sheriff" at New London Parks Days, using her whistle to keep everyone in line. Marilyn was also the first African American to serve on the New London City Council, she served the second ward for 25 years, board member for NAACP and the treasure for PYRFEECT.

Most of all, Marilyn was devoted to her family. She loved and cherished the times they shared together as a family.

Marilyn was a member of Second Christian Church in New London, MO. At Second Christian she served as Diaconate, Treasurer and has a been a member of the choir of there for many years. She also served as secretary of the Disciples Women's Ministry of the church and was also a board member of the Northeast area of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Padilla, Will Mitchell, Kenny Marshall, Donald Burton, Paris Brazil and Masen Freeman.
