MERCEDES, TX - On Saturday, January 14, 2023, Julia S. Gonzalez passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at Valley Grande Manor Nursing Home in Weslaco, TX. We were blessed to have celebrated her 93rd birthday just days before her passing.
She was born to parents Donicio Sanchez and Augustina Menchaca Sanchez on January 9, 1930 in Mercedes, TX. She would fondly reminisce over the years about going up north to work in the fields. She devoted her life completely to her children and their home. She spent her final years doing word search puzzles and playing loteria and bingo.
Julia is survived by her children Rosalinda G. Reyes, Manuel "Manny" Gonzalez Jr from Mercedes and Maria de San Juana Rodela Gonzalez of Houston. She is also survived by 15 Grandchildren, 27 Great-Grandchildren and 9 Great Great Grandchildren.
Julia is preceded in death by her husband Manuel Gonzalez, daughter Maria de San Juan "Pana" Villa, son Jose Martin Gonzalez and siblings Teresa Sanchez, Timoteo Sanchez, Francisco Sanchez, Maria Luisa Sanchez, Jose Sanchez and Antonio Sanchez.
A viewing is scheduled for Monday, January 16, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes, TX. Internment will follow at Mercedes Memorial Restlawn Cemetery in Mercedes, TX.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandsons David Reyes, Andy Reyes, Mark Reyes, Homero Villa Jr, Randy Gonzalez, and Nune Hernandez.
