18, 2006. Mrs. Atkins was a member of Mr. Zion Baptist Church in Selmer. She worked for Brown Shoe Company and later as a cook for different restaurants in Selmer. She loved cooking for family holidays, taking care of her grandkids and going to church. She truly had a heart of gold.
She departed this life on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at her home at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 27 days. Mrs. Atkins is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Atkins-Jones and husband Eric of Chicago, IL; Cassaundra Atkins of Selmer; four sisters, Mary Hearn of Chicago, IL; Gene Mae Hughes of Chicago, IL; Cora Mae Conley of Kenosha, WI; Rosie Westbrook and husband Clay of Selmer: six grandchildren, Tavares Atkins of Selmer; Charles Atkins Jr and wife of Destiny of Chicago; William LaShun Damron and wife Nakesha of Atlanta, Georgia; Jerren Clark of Selmer; Tamara Knight and husband Allen of Chicago; December Reed of Chicago. Eight great grandchildren: Dania Martex; Deonte Robyn of Chicago, IL; and Liyah of Milwaukee, WI (some were cut off the article). A host of aunts, nephews, cousins and friends. Thanks to Shelia Brown and all of Mrs Atkins special friends who always called to check on her.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by two sons,
Charlie Aaron Atkins and William Earl Atkins; five brothers, Pop Weldon Hughes, Weldon Hughes, Amos Lee Hughes, James Hughes, Bill Bo Hughes; a grandchild Jarvis Clark.
Pallbearers: Jeremy Whitley, Reggie Nichols, Claude Hudson, George Atkins, Johnny Hudson, Billy Ray Nichols. Honorary: Charles Atkins Jr, Shaun Damron, Greg Hughes, Jerren Clark, Derrick Tatum, Tavares Atkins. Burial in Mt Zion Cemetery in Selmer, Tenn.
