Ida Florence Cates had cancer was the best guess the family could come up with. They didn't have money for a doctor and of course at that time it wouldn't have helped much anyway. Many family members said that Levi Jorden Morrow died of a broken heart - as he died only 11 days after the passing of his beloved wife. He was much older than she and he loved her a great deal and when she died he just couldn't go on. When the depression came Levi apparently had been doing fairly well as an overseer of several large farms in the area for landowners, however that ended with economy falling apart. He began working for the Work Program of America - Roosevelt's solution for the crisis and put people to work building roads. Levi helped build the highway that runs near Brasher cemetery where he and Ida are buried. They had five children and when Ida and Levi died the two oldest, Thomas Nelson and Mary Elizabeth, stepped in and finished raising the three younger boys - Charles William, Levi Jorden and Clarence Alfred. Those three boys were always very grateful to both of them because of that.

Update 04-11-18 - just located Levi and Ida's death certificates (the last name is spelled Marrow on both) - Levi died of Labor Pneumonia and Ida died of Uterine cancer.
