Marguerite E. Snowden, age 96, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at a local care center.
Marguerite E. Snowden, the daughter of Jancred and Rose (Hovorka) GrandPre' was born on December 15, 1911 in Turton, South Dakota. She attended country school near Conde and graduated from Bradley High School. She then graduated from Smith Beauty College in Aberdeen. Marguerite was employed as a beautician in Milbank and Clark before moving to Watertown in 1937.
On May 27, 1939 she married Leon Snowden in Howard, South Dakota and the couple made their home in Watertown. She was employed at Granite Beauty Shop for about three years and then was an assistant manager at Sears and Roebuck. From 1946-1966 Leon and Marguerite lived in Conde where she operated a beauty shop. Upon returning to Watertown, the couple operated Leon and Marg's Barber & Beauty Shop until 1982. She was then employed at Connie's Beauty Shop until 1986. Leon and Marguerite spent the winters in Texas from 1982-1992. Leon Snowden passed away on December 14, 1998.
Marguerite was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and a former member of St. Irene's Circle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon; and one brother, Stanley.
She is survived by her daughter, Dava Rusch and her husband, Norbert of Alexandria, MN; her son, Michael Snowden and his wife, Rita of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral mass will be Saturday, February 23 , 2008 at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father James Bream officiating.
Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Watertown, SD.
Active Pallbearers will be Scott Brinkman, Tom Aljoe, Jim Felberg, Jim Dugan, Glen Vilhauer and Jesse Peterson.
