CAROL JEAN HEYDEN

Carol Jean Heyden was born July 30, 1937 at Burke, South Dakota to Henry and Blanche (Leonard) Hamann and died February 24, 2007 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 69 years.

Carol attended grade school at the Klug, Berg and Burkinshaw Schools. She graduated from Burke High School in 1954.

After attending classes during the summer, she began her first teaching job at Spotted Tail School, District #81. During her career span of nearly 50 years, she taught school in Thermopolis, Wyoming, Pleasant View, Burke Middle School, Naper and Spencer. She also substitute taught at numerous schools in South Dakota and Nebraska.

Carol was married to Havor Heyden in Burke, South Dakota on December 28, 1957. Together they ranched south of Jamison for 49 years.

Carol was well known in the community for her flowers and garden. Her gardens weren't measured in square feet, but in acres.

Havor, Carol and family attended the Jamison United Methodist Church. She was on the church board in later years and also helped with Bible School. She was involved in 4-H as a leader and helper to kids in the community. Carol instilled her love of books and reading to all children. Recently she joined the Red Hat Society of Burke and enjoyed their get-togethers very much.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Blanche as well as her in-laws, Margaret and Lloyd Heyden.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Havor of Jamison, NE; her children, Bruce and wife Betsy of Jamison, NE, Jerri and husband Randy Neuharth of Yankton, SD, Brenda and husband David Schaefer of Boca Raton, FL, and Chad and wife Lesli of Jamison, NE; eight grandchildren, Sierra, Brandi, Joe, Brand, Eric, Skyler, Lauren, and Sydney; along with many other relatives, friends and students.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the Burke Civic Center in Burke, SD with Pastor Mark Turner officiating. Bruce Heyden gave the eulogy. Interment was in Spotted Tail cemetery at Jamison, Nebrska. Casket bearers were Bruce Heyden, Chad Heyden, Randy Neuharth, Dave Schaefer, Joe Schaefer, Eric Schaefer, and Brand Heyden. Music was provided by Charlene Juran and Vickie Dobesh along with Twylah Ward, pianist. Fran and Oakley Eide, Barb Jons and Darlene & Jim Doyle were at the registers, and Shelly Jacobsen and Georgia Serr were in charge of flowers.
