Claire Marie Doll, 93, a former resident of Macomb Township and St. Clair Shores, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in Shelby Nursing Center, Shelby Township. She was born Oct. 20, 1907, in Victory Township.

Mrs. Doll retired in 1964 following 36 years of service as a teacher. She worked at the former Dickinson and Donaldson elementary schools in Mount Clemens Community Schools, and she later served as a teacher and vice principal at Mason Elementary School in the Grosse Pointe school district.

She earned a bachelor's degree at Eastern Michigan University and a master's degree at Wayne State University. She was one of the first members of the Mount Clemens branch of the Women's National Farm and Garden Association and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.

Mrs. Doll was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Mount Clemens, where she was active with the altar guild and the Episcopal League, and kept in touch with her home church, Emanuel Lutheran, in Ludington.

Relatives said Mrs. Doll was known affectionately as Grandma to scores of youngsters at the church, who knew she kept candy in her pocket for them. She enjoyed music, gardening, nature, people and being with her husband.

She is survived by her nephew, Thomas Coleman of Ludington; and nieces, Claire Ellen Chaney of Anaheim, Calif., Carol Chapel of Longview, Texas, Sharon Harvey of Mount Carmel, Ind., and other nephews, nieces, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Doll Jr.; sister, Grace Coleman; and brother, Charles Gustafson.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Grace Episcopal Church, 115 South Main, Mount Clemens, with the Rev. Harold R. Bronk Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Grove Cemetery, Clinton Township.

Visitation is 1-7 p.m. Sunday in Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 S. Main St., Mount Clemens. Memorial contributions may be addressed to Grace Episcopal Church of Mount Clemens or Emanuel Lutheran Church, 501 E. Danaher Street, Ludington, MI 49431.
