Charlies "Charlie" William Crean
1946 – 2022

Charles William Crean was born in San Francisco, California, on October 10, 1946, and died at his home in Carmichael, California, on December 30, 2022. He was a son of Joseph Charles and Rose Katherine Crean.

Charlie grew up in Marin County, California, and graduated from Sir Francis Drake High School, San Anselmo, California, in 1964. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1966 and served as a boiler tender / fireman on the USS Burton Island and the USS Paricutin. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Viet Nam Service Medal. Until his retirement in 1995, he was employed by GOAT (later Allied Transport) as an auto transport driver and was a member of Teamster Local 315. He was also a member of Elks Lodge #2103, Carmichael.

An avid San Francisco 49ers and Giants fan, Charlie was always a San Francisco boy, no matter where he lived. His Irish heritage meant a lot to him and he could break out an Irish brogue with the best of them. He was a proud veteran and a good friend. He loved spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren who were so special to him.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Jan; daughter: Sheila Chubb; sons: Shawn Crean and Patrick (Trina) Crean; grandchildren: Oliver, Phoebe and Elliott Chubb and Adam Crean; brother: Mike (Nina) Crean; sisters: Laurie (Frank) Urenia, Liz (Bob) Turrini; Katie (Nick) Crowe and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Crean, and his parents.

There will be a service on February 24, 2023 at 1 pm at the Sacramento National Cemetery, Dixon, CA followed by a Celebration of Life at the Carmichael Elks Lodge #2103, 5631 Cypress Avenue, Carmichael, CA 95608.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Wounded Warrior Project and St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.

Condolences may be sent to Charlie's family to Janet Crean, 6617 Palm Avenue, Carmichael, CA 95608.
