"Fred" emigrated to Canada in 1921. His father, brother, and sister Dulcie had emigrated earlier, with their father. Their mother chose to remain in England with Muriel who was a young child at the time.
Fred and Bill were employed at the Garnet Tayler farm at Wellington. In 1925 he moved to the Prof. Iva Martin farm at Cherry Valley, which he operated for six years. This was followed by a period of construction work, after which 12 years were spent as part of the Outlet Provincial Park staff, retiring in 1968.
Fred married Josephine (Josie) Dodds of Cherry Valley about 1943.
Fred's gardens and beds of flowers were admired by passersby and he always shared their beauty and bounty. For many years he was a director of the Prince Edward Horticultural Society and assisted in many of their tree, bulb and rose bush plantings.
He was a member of the Cherry Valley United Church and the Picton Seniors Club. As associate director of Prince Edward Agricultural Society, he assisted for many years with the fruits and vegetable section of the County Fair. He was talented in drawing and produced many lovely pen and ink sketches.
Fred died February 23, 1985.
