Sidney Allen Overby passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010. He had unknown complications after a fall and our Lord called him home. The Rev. Bobby Joe Winningham officiated. He is buried at Steele Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home, Gadsden, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Overby is survived by his wife, Paula Byrd Overby, married 11 1/2 wonderful years; son, Sidney Allen II, and wife, Dawn; granddaughter, Emily; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Garrett and Lanie; granddaughters, Amanda and Montana; grandsons, Blake and Matthew; son, Michael and wife, Deborah; grandson, Chad and wife, Amanda; great-granddaughter, Desiree; granddaughter, Heather and husband, Zack; great-granddaughter, Kadence; son, Stephen and wife, Dayna; stepson, Jamie Dow Byrd and wife, Debbie; stepgrandsons, Jamie Jr., Cody Byrd and wife, Kayla; great-granddaughter, Kadence; grandson, Jimmy Thompson and wife, Samantha; great-granddaughter, Makenzie; great-grandson, Trey, Randy Thompson and wife, Hannah; stepson, Paul Byrd and wife, Mary; stepgranddaughters, Morgan and Makayla; sisters, Evas Ankron, Ruby Bain and Theda Faye; and brother, Troy Lee and wife, Becky.
He was preceded in death by mother, Nellie Estelle Lillie; stepmother, Gertrude Lee; father, Sam Charley Overby; sisters, Rosalee Tolbert, Pearl Carlile, Mary Ellen and Violet Jean; and brothers, Willie Thomas "Buddie," Sam, Charles Jr., Pete and Mickey.
Sidney served in the United States Navy for 12 years, 1954 to 1966. He was on the U.S.S. Boxer and U.S.S. Mole, and he loved the Navy. He worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and retired in 1997. Sidney had his first heart transplant in 1997 and had his second heart transplant in 2000. Sidney had many friends and loved people, he was always ready to help anyone and loved the life that the good Lord gave him.
He was a member of the McEntyre Baptist Church in Greensport where they called him their "M&M Miracle Man."
