RIVERSIDE - Eugene H. Rutten, a former trustee on the Banning School Board, died in Riverside, on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Riverside Community Hospital. He was 63.
A Mass was said today at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Riverside and burial was at Riverside National Cemetery.
Rutten was an active member of the Banning Lions Club and had served as its president. He was also a past Governor of Lions District 4L5, and served on the Multiple District 4 committee. He was a member of the Magnolia Lions Club, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 905.
While living in Banning, Rutten served on the Banning School Board for four years and was a clerk of the Banning Library Board; served as the Education Committee Chairman of 1960 Grand Jury; and served on the Airport Commission.
He was active in forming the Mt. San Jacinto Community Collage District.
Rutten was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945.
He was a supervisor at the former Helms Bakery in the Pass area, and was active on the political scene. He worked as a manager at Investors Diversified Service for four years.
Survivors include his wife, Melva Rutten of Riverside; two sons, Michael Rutten of Belmont, Mass. and Patrick Rutten of Novato; three daughters, Anne Boroff of Riverside, Sheila Rutten of Solano Beach and Maureen Rutten of San Diego; two brothers, Henry Rutten of Devils Lake, N.D. and Gerald Rutten of Yucaipa; three sisters, Alice Wickum of Rialto, Bernadine Pentz of San Bernardino, and Germaine Erskine of Los Alamitos; and three granddaughters.
The family has suggested the Riverside County Heart Association for those who wish to make contributions in his name.
