Evan married Naomi Short Magee 26 November 1815 in St Tammany Parish, Louisiana.

Evan was the son of William James. He was a lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion Chester County PA Militia. He was the husband of Rachel Evans, who was the daughter of Abner and Sarah (Thomas) Evans. The children of Evan and Rachel James were William, Abner, Mary, Sarah, Evan, Hannah and Jesse.

There is another, much newer looking "tombstone" for Evan and Rachel James at Fairview Presbyterian Cemetery in Glenmoore, Pennsylvania. It is next to the family plot of their son Jesse. It is probably more of a memorial that was placed there by Jesse's descendants. Most likely Evan and Rachel remain buried at the French Creek cemetery. Their original tombstones are there along with those of their son Evan and daughter Hannah.
