Dorothy Emma Hall, 90, of Zanesville, was one of the founding members of Firestone Park Baptist Church in 1929 with her late husband, John. Mrs. Hall, formerly of Akron, died Tuesday in Zanesville, where she had lived for 31 years. She was an honorary deaconess of the church, which dedicated a book celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding to her. The book displayed her picture on the front page, said Gladys Lipford of Akron, her longtime friend Hall, helped found and fellow church member. "She started the church in the first place," Mrs. Lipford said. "She had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church and she and several other Baptists got together and decided Firestone Park needed a Baptist church. "They met in her home at 103 Mapledale Ave. and even started a Sunday school there." WHEN THE congregation outgrew Mrs. Hall's home as a meeting place, it moved at first to Firestone Park school and then to Voris School during the Depression. The present church was built in 1942. When the congregation observed its 50th anniversary last year, Mrs. Hall was unable to leave a rest home in Zanesville to return for the celebration. But her son, Edgar of Zanesville, did attend. He was a charter member of the church. After the death of her husband, church Mrs. Hall worked for several years at the Akron Automobile Club before moving to Zanesville. She was born in Spencer, W. Va. She also was a member Eastern Star Chapter 485, Rosa Shrine and Market Street Baptist Church in Zanesville. She also leaves son Jack Hall of Madeira Beach, Fla., five grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Bryan funeral home Zanesville and at 3 p.m. Friday. Burial in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
