John was born on September 28, 1940, in Sioux City, the son of Ralph and Marian (Beller) Kuehl. John grew up in South Sioux City and attended South Sioux City St. Michael's grade school and graduated from Heelan High School in 1958. He wrestled collegiately at Wayne State College and then attended L.A. City College.
On October 24, 1970, John married Pauline Reichardt in Sioux City.
John was a member of the Local 214 Painters Union and worked for Blankenship Painting for over 30 years, retiring at age 60. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus. John had a love of animals, dancing, and a great party with his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife Pauline of Sioux City; his children, David Kuehl (Carrie) of Sioux City, Katie Calease (Jason) of Tiffin, Iowa, and Adam Kuehl (Tomei) of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren, Winnie (Alex), Maxwell, Molly, Tolan, and Reif; and a great-grandson Theodore.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Bobby; his two sisters, Doe and Rooney; and his in-laws Gordon and Grace Reichardt.
