Harlingen - Alejandro Abrego, 90, was born August 29th, 1928 in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico to his parents, Romulo Abrego Sr. and Zapopan Guajardo. Alejandro went on to be educated in Monclova, where he met and married Tamine Martinez Abrego. Eventually, Alejandro and Tamine emigrated to the United States, where they settled in Harlingen, Texas. It was here in Harlingen that Alejandro and Tamine raised their four children, Alejandro Jr., Eduardo, Marissa, and Edgar. Alejandro was dedicated to his profession as Laboratory Technician. He worked primarily in Hematology and Pathology for over 35 years at several local hospitals, namely Valley Baptist (Harlingen and Brownsville) and Dolly Vinsant (San Benito). He was an active member of Saint Anthony's Catholic Parish. Alejandro will be remembered for his tremendous work ethic, amiable nature, and sense of humor.

Alejandro is preceded in death by his parents, Romulo Abrego Sr. and Zapopan Guajardo Abrego, and his siblings, Romanita, Juan, Lilia and Romulo Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Tamine Martinez Abrego, his children, Alejandro Abrego Jr. of Austin, Eduardo Javier Abrego of Harlingen, Marissa A. Leal and husband Jesus S. Leal of McAllen, and Edgar Alberto Abrego of Harlingen, his granddaughters, Laura Lizette Leal and Veronica Annette Leal, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Visitation will be held in the Rudy Garza Funeral Home Chapel today, Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 1:00 pm-9:00 pm with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church. All services will conclude at the church.
