ELKHART — Allen Rae "Andy" Andersen, 69, of Elkhart, was called to his heavenly home Friday, Sept. 25.
He was born Oct. 29, 1945, in Minden, Neb., to Alvin and Milrae Andersen.
On Nov. 8, 2008, he married his beloved wife, Karen S. Marsh of Elkhart.
In addition to his wife, other survivors include one sister, Judy (Garry) Custer of Harvard, Neb.; niece Kathy (Ronnie) Martinez of Elkhart; their daughters, Haley and Abby of Elkhart; and other close family members residing in New York.
After graduating from high school, Andy proudly served in the U.S. Navy with the 20th Naval Construction Regiment and served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War.
Following his military service he received training in the building and construction industry. Andy later worked for 31 years with the CDTA while living in Albany, N.Y.
He was a member of the New York Transient Workers Union and served as its president for many years. He was also a member of the Elkhart Fraternal Order of the Moose and a faithful member of Elkhart Church of God.
Andy loved southern gospel music and enjoyed attending concerts of that genre. He also loved to hunt, fish and help others with various building projects.
He was an outstanding and caring man who had many friends and acquaintances. He will be sorely missed by all.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Justin Moore and Pastor Edward Vegh will officiate. Following the service, military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and Elkhart DAV 19.
