Sam married Addie Mellisa Hazlitt in Palestine, Texas on May 10, 1898. In June, 1900, he was farming in Smith County, Texas.
Their first child, Addie Mozelle, was born in Aug., 1899 in Texas. By the time their second child, Albert Edward, was born in Feb., 1902, they were living in Arkansas, where Sam continued farming and also worked as a freight hauler. Osler Simms was born in 1905, Blanche Virginia in 1909, and Sam Frederick in 1912, all in Arkansas.
Sam Houston died Oct. 16, 1918 in Ozan, Arkansas during the flu epedemic.
He requested to be buried beside his grandmother, Drucilla Carter Beauchamp, in Bullard Cemetery, Smith County, Texas.
His wife was buried beside him in 1955.
