Maria Sinforosa Josefa Amador was born July 17, 1788 at the San Francisco presidio and baptized as Maria Simphorosa Josefa, "Yndia" SFD#706 July 22, 1788. Recent studies (2010) led by Dr. John R. Johnson of the Department of Anthropology at the Museum of Natural History in Santa Barbara, California[2] have ruled--based on analysis of saliva from one of her matrilineal descendants--that Sinforosa (and of course her mother, Ramona Noriega; and Ramona's mother: who was probably Clara Aguirre) belonged to Haplogroup A (mtDNA), specifically to subgroup A26, "Native American" by matrilineal ancestry and Spanish by her paternal side.
